GAUNTLET: NIGHTFALL LORE COLLECTED

The Handler sends the Strix Raiders to discover and foil Pax Armata's plans inside of Hagental Base.

GAUNTLET: NIGHTFALL LORE COLLECTED

Gauntlet: Nightfall sees trios battle for the powerful surveillance technology inside of the subterranean Hagental Base. Like with Season 1 of Battlefield 6 and REDSEC, Season 2 brings a twist on Gauntlet. REDSEC players are able to get a taste of the new Battlefield 6 map, Hagental Base, without owning the paid game.

As with the rest of the Nightfall phase, the theme is night operations. This special version of Gauntlet has the following differences to what you may be used to in vanilla Gauntlet:

  • Played in squads of three
  • A fixed sequence of Gauntlet modes: Vendetta, Contract, and Heist
  • The Darkness modifier, which means lights out and NVGs automatically equipped to your loadout
  • Set on the Battlefield 6 Hagental Base map

When loading into a match of Gauntlet: Nightfall, you're able to read the combat zone description for Hagental Base - Pitch Black:

The Brooklyn operation yielded evidence of Pax activity at the Hagental Air Base in Germany. A skilled team descends on the Cold War-era site, quickly learning that they're not the only ones looking into the source of Pax's fascination.
Gauntlet: Flashpoint Lore Collected
Gauntlet: Flashpoint sees the Handler’s squad travel to New York in order to find answers on Pax’s involvement in Fort Lyndon.

Gauntlet: Flashpoint is directly linked to Gauntlet: Nightfall. Review the intel in this article!

This description does give some details to gleam from it. First, the Brooklyn operation was in relation to confirming Ironshore Logistics was Pax Armata's shell company. That intel could've exposed other transactions funneling through Ironshore that was in close proximity to the Hagental Air Base. Second, the skilled team referenced is the new NATO unit, the Strix Raiders. But what about the other group that is hinted at? We might have our answer in the Nightfall Gameplay trailer...

Douglas Pham is seen working with a member of Phantom Squad, which seems to be Battlefield 6's incarnation of the franchise's fabled Phantom Program.

OPENING BRIEFINGS

All dialogue is from The Handler, the announcer for REDSEC experiences. You could get any of the following at the start of a match:

  • “We tracked Pax here from intel gathered in Brooklyn, but the rest is up to you. I want answers. Drop hostiles and find what you can.”
  • "Intel led us here. Get in, find info on what Pax is after, and secure any classified materials you find. Hostiles are moving in to attempt seizure. Don't let 'em."
  • "Here's the plan: breach, locate intel on why Pax is tracking this base, and secure intel. Expect interference from hostile forces."

VENDETTA

Your trio is first tasked with taking out high-value targets designated by the Handler.

Pre-round dialogue:

  • "Take out those high-value targets."
  • "I'm marking HVTs for you to move on. See to it."

Post-round dialogue:

  • "Those HVTs didn't stand a chance."
  • "Solid hit. Proof you're a pro."

CONTRACT

Next, it's a battle for survival. Your goal is to be one of the last two squads standing. All that's left is a battle for the powerful technology housed inside of Hagental Base...

Pre-round dialogue:

  • "Enemy combatants moving in on your area. Strike 'em down."
  • "Put those hostiles out of their misery."

Post-round dialogue:

  • "Solid work on those hostiles, but we're not done yet."
  • "Good hunt. Stay alert, more to come."

HEIST

In the final round, the Gauntlet mode "Heist" acts as a stand-in for the Project Veles servers that Pax transported here. Do the Strix Raiders come out on top? Or does Pax Armata retain control of the classified technology?

Pre-round dialogue:

  • "Heads up, you've got incoming. Drop 'em."
  • "You're putting up a good fight. Now focus on resources. Extract and take down anyone in your way."

THE OUTCOME?

While not stated outright in game, the powerful surveillance technology at the center of the conflict is Project Veles. In the Battlefield 6 campaign, Project Veles was heavily used by Pax Armata to conceal their military movements and accomplish critical operations. An undisclosed amount of Project Veles servers were stolen by Pax Armata forces from the Cyberwarfare Site in the Mukhrovani NATO base.

Pax's plan was to use Project Veles on Hagental Base, which is NATO's Satellite Operations Center. This would crumble NATO's intelligence apparatus, leaving the struggling alliance blind in the conflict to come.

(This information above was supplied in the Nightfall guide on the official Battlefield website.)

Differing from Gauntlet: Flashpoint, Gauntlet: Nightfall doesn't have any dialogue when you win. This was likely intentional, and it's up to us to infer which side succeeded. In my opinion, I think the Strix Raiders and NATO were victorious. Season 2 as a whole has had a consistent theme of NATO taking the threat of Pax seriously. First, we saw it with their deployment of VL-7 across two critical combat zones (Bavaria, Germany and Fort Lyndon, California). And secondly with the insertion of the Strix Raiders, hardened soldiers who most likely have the experience to succeed against the unit sent in by Pax Armata.

NATO has had plenty of losses since the War of 2027 started, and I believe Season 2 is when the balance of power starts to tip its way towards NATO's side.

That's all for this article. I hope you enjoyed a deep dive into the critical lore surrounding this mode. Thank you for reading and visiting Battlefield Chronicles!
